Tidal Turbulence

Turbulence

Utilising the services of oceanographer Juvénal Dufaur we have built up expertise in the examination of tidal turbulence working in conjunction with the Environmental Research Institute, part of North Highland College UHI.
In 2014 we obtained funding from the Natural Environment Research Council for a six month project to further investigate turbulent features in the field. Techniques employed include aerial photography, 3D modelling and field measurements.

The county of Caithness in the north of Scotland is well-placed in energy terms; we led the world in nuclear power and now in nuclear decommissioning. Today we are pushing ahead with renewable energy developments, supporting Government targets, combating climate change and creating jobs. With the world's first commercial wave and tidal leasing round (Pentland Firth and Orkney Waters) off our north coast including the MeyGen scheme in the Inner Sound off Stroma, impressive offshore wind opportunities off our east coast in the Moray Firth and other excellent resources such as biomass and oil exploration from an onshore location at Lybster, the county is the ideal location to grow, train and up skill the next generation of energy industry and power sector workers.
